Are you a wolf or a fox? Anyone might be probably curious to answer this question when visiting Wolf and Fox Gastropub, a cozy place serving British cuisines that opened last May 2014. It is one of the new ventures from the same group (Marvin Agustin, Ricky Laudico, and Raymond Magdaluyo) that introduced Sumosam, Akira, Banzai, and Teddy’s Burger.
When I first heard of Wolf and Fox Gastropub, I imagined it as a place with people loudly partying. And I was 101% wrong. The first level can accommodate around 25 guests and the smaller second floor area approximately about 15.
Framed photos of animal-headed humans accentuated the dark walls which were really eye-catching for me. I definitely love huge frames hanging on walls, be it a photo or a painting. The entire place was dimly lit with yellow lights. It was simply classy.
Wolf vs Fox
As the people from Wolf and Fox put it, highly successful people can be classified into two canine categories – a fox or a wolf. A wolf is aggressive and dominating. A fox is creative and intelligent. With distinct personalities, the wolf and the fox eat differently, too. A wolf likes urban and modern flavors whereas the fox likes fresh and artisan food. With this, they creatively presented and divided their menu into two, wolf menu and fox menu.
On the Table
British Classic Pub-Style Nachos (PHP299)
To start a delicious night, we grabbed some British Classic Pub-Style Nachos. We all enjoyed everything that was in it – black olives, ground beef, mushroom, corn, jalapeno, and fresh salsa. The cheese and sour cream added much flavor in it. The corn chips were really crunchy and tasty on its own.
All-Meat Flat Bread (PHP378) and Shrimp and Roasted Pepper Flat Bread (PHP398)
For pizza lovers like me, All-Meat Flat Bread and Shrimp and Roasted Pepper Flat Bread are a must try. The crust was very thin and crispy. The All-Meat Flat Bread is the typical all-meat pizza you can find in town. Between the two, I like more the Shrimp and Roasted Pepper. The shrimps in mozzarella cheese were fabulously yummy.
Seafood in Evoo Pasta (PHP328)
I think pizza lovers are almost always pasta lovers, too. And who will not delight pasta if it was like the Seafood in Evoo Pasta? Evoo actually refers to extra virgin olive oil. Next to tomato based pasta, I really like olive oil based ones, now including Seafood in Evoo. It was cooked al dente (a big plus for me) with fresh lemon fettuccine topped with shrimps and squid.
Four Mini Brioche Burger (PHP319)
Four Mini Brioche Burger simply proved that big things come in small packages. It was quite delectable to have a French bread like brioche as burger – rich, tender, and buttery!
Pound of Wings (PHP425)
A Pound of Wings was absolutely more than a pound of goodness. Its strong flavor was even made better with its bleu cheese partner. I just wished there was a spicy version of this.
Fish and Chips (PHP358)
Blame beer batter for the crispy coating of their classic Fish and Chips. Crunchy as it was on the outside, the fillet was juicy on the inside and was tasty in every bite. It came with skin-on fries. Don’t forget to dip it with the tartar sauce and malt vinegar.
We’ve also got one secret recipe that must not be kept secret at all – Paella Madrilleno! You won’t see it in their menu and they will only serve it for a limited time (sadly). It was generously poured in with shrimps, mussels, pork, lemon, and egg. They say paella is all about the rice and Madrilleno had that perfectly cooked grains.
Eton Mess (PHP268)
If there will be one mess you will want in your life, it definitely had to be Eton Mess (PHP268). How dare them call this lovely dessert a mess? Eton Mess was made of whipped cream mixed with crumbled meringue and strawberries. The cream was not overly sweet that might probably deceive you to scoop more. The sweet flavor came from the crumbled meringue and strawberries. The strawberries also added some sour taste to it giving that crazy twist.
